[Provision of peasant farms with machinery. Its influence on production and the measures to improve the situation]

To establish the number and the condition of agricultural machines on peasant farms as well as to forecast the farmers' needs, a group of scientists carried out an inquiry in 23% of Latvia's rural districts. The analysis of the resulting inquiry data shows that the present fleet of agricultural machines on farms cannot ensure a normal production process. To improve the situation the following measures are suggested: 1) increasing the fleet of agricultural machines; 2) cooperation in the purchase of machines; 3) organization of machnine rings in districts; 4) organization or improvement of machine service.
