Forest destruction and fragmentation has accelerated over the last 60 years. Once adapted to hunting strategies for clearings and forest edge, the Philippine falconet (Microhierax erythrogenys) is now also able to hunt in the disturbed agricultural areas. In this study, the hunting techniques using the relative proportion of flapping flight and gliding, the angle of attack and the microhabitat of the prey are described. With the data, it was assessed whether habitat factors were related to the use of different hunting techniques. With regard to microhabitat parameters measured within a radius of 30 m, the four defined hunting techniques differed significantly. Multivariate analysis showed that horizontal hunting techniques are associated with forest habitats, whereas, the hunting technique in open habitats are associated with a steeper eagle of attack. However, the analysis of the microhabitat measured with a radius of 25 m, showed that although the Philippine falconet is able to hunt in open habitat, the species occurs only with at least extant secondary forest
