To compare the rice fish culture and monoculture, a field trial was conducted at Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, D.I.Khan, during 1994. Fish specie Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was stocked in trenches after 20 days of rice transplanting in one field. No supplemental feed was given to fish. After 120 days, the rice and fish were harvested. No significant increase in rice yield and other yield components were observed except in number of tillers per plant. Hence there was substantial increase in the total income due to production of fish and reduction in cost of inputs i.e., pesticides. Cost return analysis revealed that gross income and net income were higher in rice-fish culture as compared to rice monoculture. An average weight of 160 g/fingerling was observed.
