1998
Bablani, K. (Karachi Univ. (Pakistan). Dept. of Zoology) | Bilqees, F.M.
Observations were made on the liver of Otolithus argenteus infected with nematode larvae. Histopathologic changes due to this infection are described here based on the study of stained serial sections of the infected organ. The larvae were present on the surface of liver capsule and in the mesenteries surrounding this organ. The major changes were found in the liver cell arrangement. The normal liver cell cords were totally disrupted and the cells were enlarged. Severe necrosis of coagulative type was seen. Changes in the portal tract area and degeneration of arteries with obliteration of lumen were also observed. Several sections revealed hypoxic or toxic necrosis with brown atrophy of liver, with this condition hyperplasia of bile duct was obvious due to increase in the number of duct cells.
