Effect of variable temperature of the culture on trehalose content in baker's S. cerevisiae grown in laboratory fermentor was investigated. The highest trehalose accumulation in yeasts cells was obtained by applying variable culture temperatures according to the following scheme: 38 deg C for the first 2 hours, 30 deg C for the next 6 hours and 38 deg C for the final 4 hours. During these growth conditions 19.1-21.5 percent dry mass trehalose was accumulated and the biomass yield reached 0.36-0.39.
