Use of pea seeds as a domestic source of protein in concentrates for growing and finishing pigs
1999
Stanek, M.
Nutritive value of pea seeds was assessed as well as the potentiality for using pea seeds as a substitute of soybean meal in concentrates for growing and finishing pigs, which contained different proportions of the four species of cereals (wheat, triticale, rye and barley). Two white flowering pea cultivars (Albatros and Piast) of different foliage, soil requirements and harvesting maturity were examined. The content of basic nutrients, quality of protein and levels of antinutritional factors were determined. Four cycles of fattening were completed, from body weight of 30 kg to approximately 100 kg, the efficiency of which was assessed based on body gains, feed conversion ratio and some slaughter quality components. Digestibility tests were conducted and nitrogen balance in the first and second period of fattening was estimated
