In present paper the case of a very known phenomenon of river bed erosion is studied on the example of erosion downstream of Dobczyce Dam on the Raba river. In 1974-87 years the Dobczyce Dam was constructed in km 60 of the river, the main purpose of the construction was water supply for Krakow. The dam cut off completely bed load transport from upstream. In the paper are presented methodological studies of sediment during the degradation process. We also evaluated suitability of Meyer-Peter-Muller and Bartnik's formulae for the sediment transport. The armor coat and the underlying sediment were treated separately, after the first removal of an armour coat by the flood wave its reconstruction during the lower stages was calculated and the influence of the following wave was calculated for a new bed
