Field performance of selected new strawberry cultivars

Seven short-day and three day-neutral strawberry cultivars were assessed. Yield, average weight of berry and susceptibility to grey mold (Botrytis cinerea) were evaluated. The highest yield was obtained from Senga Sengana, Gerida and Honeoye cultivars. Among the high-yielded cultivars, Honeoye seems to be the most attractive cultivar as an early-ripening cultivar with large size berries. Of day-neutral cultivars, Ostara gave the highest yield. However, the autumn yields of day-neutral cultivars were poor which makes these cultivars suitable to homegarden growing rather then to commercial fruit production
