Many species of Cuphea genus show promise as rich natural sources of valuable seed oils for commercial utility. Among of them are C. lanceolata and C. viscossima which seed oils contain medium-chain fatty acids. Reciprocal crosses were made between these species to assess thei usefulness for Cuphea breeding program. The degree of crossability between C. lanceolata and C. viscossima was determined by pollen grain germination and pollen tube growth observed using fluorescence microscopy in addition to capsule formation and seed number per capsule
