Spatial and temporal changes of land uses and their impacts on landscape of Kournas, Georgioupoli area

The study deals with the area of Kournas Georgioupoli which is a very important landscape with peculiar characteristics. As it is concluded from the bibliography many studies have been done on the area but none of them from an integrated planning point of view. In order to cover the deficiency of the bibliography on the flora of the area, floristic analysis was made. The aim of the study was to reveal the dynamic and the trends of the landscape looking forward to evaluate the whole area and the threats. For this purpose the changes of the last twenty five years were studied through the use of Airphotos and statistical data. A map of the land uses were produced from the air photos and in combination with the statistical data the changes and their causes were illuminated. Through these instruments the primary production sector and its development was studied by interviewing the tourists. All the above resultant elements were evaluated together. In this way the landscape values connected with the production and the touristic values. The problems that the landscape face were revealed and analysed. Serious problems such as the danger of uniformity, the deterioration of the view and the view and the threat on the rare species and their ecotopes. At the end some proposals were made, in order to give some ideas on the direction that the situation must be faced
