Influence of zinc application on yield and micronutrient nutrition of lentil grown on Typic Ustochrepts

A field experiment was carried out to study the effect of four levels of zinc (0, 2.8, 5.6 and 11.2 kg Zn per ha as zinc sulfate) on yield and micronutrient content in lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) cv LL 147 in a Zn-deficient soil which is sandy loam, belonging to the group Typic Ustochrepts. The results indicated that adding Zn increased grain and straw yields of lentil; there was a 17.5 percent increase in grain yield with the application of 5.6 kg Zn per ha. Zinc application also increased Zn content and uptake in lentil but decreased the absorption and translocation of Fe, Mn and Cu in the plants. The ratios of Fe/Zn, Mn/Zn and Cu/Zn in grain and straw were reduced with Zn application
