Effect of sulfur fertilization on growth and yield of lentil

The effects of sources and levels of sulfur fertilization on growth, nodulation and grain yield of lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) were studied on loamy sand soil under irrigated conditions at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, from 1993/94 to 1995/96 seasons. Response of nodulation, plant traits and grain yield to sources of sulfur varied among seasons. Among the sources of S, gypsum and single super-phosphate tended to give higher yields than elemental sulfur. However, all levels of sulfur recorded significantly higher grain yield over no fertilizer application. On average, 20 kg S per ha produced 35.7 percent higher grain yield than the control plot. The addition of sulfur also improved the crude protein content of lentil seeds
