For an estimation of timber demand in the Slovak Republic we chose a non-linear power model of demand which best corresponds to market prices data and the demand in connection to other demand factors. Regression analysis obtained a model relevant to 1989-1995 and 1996 in two functional expressions: Q=2243.9657 . CE-0.1438 . DE0.3116; Q=1563.3715 . CE-0.1656 . VE0.2127; where Q is demanded quantity of timber in mE3, C is the mean price of timber in crowns per cubic m, D is the real gross domestic product (1984 prices), V is processed timber and timber products including pulp, paper and paper products (1993 prices). Power exponents inform about price elasticity coefficients for particular quantities. Obtained models of timber demand in the Slovak Republic relatively well depict conditions and dependencies in the domestic timber market and possess good declarative ability. They are also useable for short-run forecasts
