Effect of feeding frequency on diet utilization and protein digestion of tilapia feed containing various levels of cassava leaf meal

Study on the effect of feeding frequency and various levels of cassava leaf meal on diet utilization and protein digestion was studied in nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings with average weight of 1.57 g. Fishes were fed with formulated diets (isoprotein and isocaloric, 33 percent and 340 kcal/100 g respectively) containing 4 levels of cassava leaf meal 0, 10, 20 and 30 percent. Results of the twelve weeks feeding experiment showed that the fish fed without cassava leaf in diet at feeding frequency 4 times a day had the better specific growth rate. Increased percent of cassava leaf meal in diet was significant difference on food conversion ratio, protein efficiency and fat content in the fish meal. Protein digestibility was 25.3-37.9 percent and increased with increasing feeding frequency. Fish fed the high cassava leaf levels tended to have non significantly on fish protein content and specific growth rate (P0.05) with increasing feeding frequency. Results from this study has shown that the cassava leaf meal 10 percent inclusion levels at three times per day had the best specific growth rate and food utilization.
