Training needs for sugarcane pest control of field extension workers in Sing Buri sugar industry

Purpose of this thesis was to study some Basic characteristics of field extension workers and their training needs for sugarcane pest control as well as problems and suggestions concerning guidance and extension of sugarcane pest control. The population in this study were 108 field extension workers in Sing Buri sugar industry. The results of this thesis were as follows. The average age of field extension workers in Sing Buri sugar industry were 31.38 years. Most of them graduated with diploma in agriculture. Their average working years was 3.88 and average salary was 4,876.15 baht/month. They were responsible for the average field of 3,662.61 rai. They earned average additional income of 23,668.51 baht and average bonus of 7,889.52 baht. Their average debts were 61,998 baht. They needed pest control training at the high level in 19 topics and at the moderate level in 10 topics. They viewed that suitable duration of training should be 3-6 days and August was suitable month for training. As for problems in extension of sugarcane pest control, the technical problems that were frequently found during extension were about protection and elimination of sugarcane diseases because there were a lot of epidemic diseases. The problem frequently found when visiting farmers was that the supporting fund for sugarcane production was not sufficient. In addition, problem of target farmers was lacking of knowledge in sugarcane disease control. After hypotheses had been tested, field extension workers with different ages, levels of education, area of working, working years, additional income, bonus, debt and different levels of knowledge in sugarcane pest control needed training differently.
