Increasing of export capability of canned pineapple and product industry of Thailand

Although Thailand is the most important exporting country in pineapple products of the world, however, the main problems of the export are still remain. The objectives of this study were to analyse the Revealed Comparative Advantage of Thailand and the important competitive countries in canned pineapple and product, to analyse the export expansion of canned pineapple and product by using Constant Market Share Model and to study the important factors affecting Thailand export demands of canned pineapple and product to the important importing countries. In the years 1982-1986 1987-1991 and 1992-1994, the Revealed Comparative Advantage in canned pineapple of Thailand were 79.38, 61.82 and 48.42, respectively. Of Philippines were 92.8, 73.00 and 51.24, respectively, Of Indonesia were 0.84, 6.62 and 8.18, respectively. For the analyses of Revealed Comparative Advantage in pineapple juice of Thailand in the years 1982-1986 and 1987-1991 were equal to 36.46 and 36.56. Of Philippines in 1982-1985 and 1987-1991 were 131.93 and 88.91. The analyses of export expansion using Constant Market Share Model in canned pineapple of Thailand showed that factors affecting the increasing in the average export value of 1982-1986 comparing to the average value of 1987-1991 were effect of world market expansion, followed by competitive, interaction and distribution effects. And the average value of 1987-1991 comparing to 1992-1993 were effect of world market expansion, followed by distribution, competitive and interaction effects. For pineapple juice of 1982-1986 comparing to 1987-1991 were interaction effect, competitive effect, an effect of world market expansion and distribution effect. For 1990 comparing to 1991 were an effect of world market expansion, competitive effect, interaction effect and distribution effect. The analyses of canned pineapple export demand of Thailand to United States showed that the elasticities of demand with respect to Thailand's export prices, the domestic canned pineapple production and real per capita income of the United States were -0.5026, -0.3418 and 3.8012, respectively. For Germany, the elasticities of demand with respect to price ratio between Germany's canned pineapple import prices from Thailand and from Indonesia and real per capita income of Germany were -4.0058 and 2.0098, respectively. The elasticities of demand of Japan with respect to Thailand's export price and real per capita income of Japan were -2.5602 and 5.9637. The analyses of pineapple juice export demand of Thailand to the United States showed that the elasticities of demand with respect to real per capita income of United States and total product of pineapple juice of United States were 11.1337 and -0.4227, respectively. The elasticities of demand for Netherland with respect to Netherland's pineapple juice import prices and real per capita income of Netherland were -3.9271 and 19.1661. The elasticities of demand for Spain with respect to real per capita income of Spain and export price of pineapple juice of Thailand to Spain were 16.5833 and -0.8297, respectively.
