Nitrate of industrial wastewater treatment effluent is enhance a serious effect of eutrophication in receiving surface water. The objective of this study is to remove nitrate from wastewater treatment plant of the vermicelli factory (waste stabilization ponds+activated sludge) by oxic and anaerobic process. In the experimental, raw wastewater from waste stabilization ponds of vermicelli use as influent. Activated sludge reactor where nitrification, takes pace before further treatment of anaerobic filter in order to remove nitrate by denitrification reaction. The COD/Nitrate ratio varies for the study in the range as following 1.92, 3.52, 4.51, and 6.52. The efficiencies of COD removal at 160 centimeters media's depth are 41.04, 51.94, 56.29, and 49.59 percent, the efficiencies of nitrate removal are 30.30, 98.56, 99.65, and 99.74 percent as shown on test result. It could be concluded that denitrification occures when COD/Nitrate ratio is rather high, and the denitrification have almost complete when COD/Nitrate ratio is greater than 3.52. In research a mathematical model for nitrate removal is proposed as general equation. n=nm (C:N-C:Nmin)/ (K1+b (C:N-C:Nmin)) and find out the kinetic coefficients from the test result as n=100 (C:N-1.5)/(1.11+0.64(C:N -1.5)).
