Investigation of listeria species in milk and forage of dairy cows fed with diets containing silage and hay

In this study, listeria species present in raw cow milk were investigated. The animals were fed with diet containing hay and silage as forage. Our interest in the study was to determine the passage of listeria species present in silage into the milk. Listeria species were not found in hay and raw milk samples taken from dairy cows fed with hay did not contain listeria species. However, after the 4th week of experiment, listeria species were noticed in the milk of cows fed with silage containing listeria spp. Starting from the fourth week all the experiment, the number of dairy cows whose milk contained listeria species increased with each passing week in silage fed animals
