Effect of protein level in the diets of young lactating sows

It has been investigated the effect of protein level, litter size and parity on body weight loss in lactating sows, litter size at weaning, daily gain of piglets, changes in dry matter and protein content in the muscles and vital internal organs, on estrous reactions after weaning and on the period length between weaning and the first estrus. Increased protein levels (600 and 750 grams/day) in the diets of lactating sows had an effect on both decreased body weight loss and increased protein content in the muscles. In the same time, performances of suckling piglets were better, the sows showed the first estrus in an earlier and the time length was shorter between weaning and the first estrus. The sows that had a numbered litter experienced higher body weight loss, performances of piglets were lower, the sows showed the first estrus later than the others, and their period between weaning and next estrus was longer. Parity had also an effect on protein content in both muscles and internal organs.
