Influence of sites on anatomical characteristics of some black poplar clones (section Aigerios Duby)

This paper deals with three clones of black poplars: Populus x euramericana (Dode) Guinier cl. I-214, Populus deltoides Bartr. cl. 618 and Populus deltoides Bartr. cl. 450, raised on the experimental plots of the Poplar Research Institute in Novi Sad, Serbia (Yugoslavia). The effect of the environment was examined by the analysis of anatomic elements of these clones grown on two soil types: humofluvisol and fluvisol. The samples of cross, targential and radial sections were taken at breast height by standard method for microscopic preparations. The following parameters were analyzed: annual ring width, width of vessel elements and the number of vessel elements per unit area.
