Influence of watering on the content of some microelements in red meat and liver of broilers

The trial with 300 chickens, divided into three groups, has been carried out. The chicks in all the three groups received standard feed of the same quality, the only difference being the quality of water supplied for chicks during fattening. The water was obtained from three different sources. What determined us to carry out these investigations was the content of selenium in the water. The content of selenium was four times higher in water obtained from one of the used sources (0.004 mg/l). Water from another two siurces had the same content of selenium (0.001 mg/l). In the 2nd, 3rt and 6th week of fattening, 6 broilers from each group were slaughtered and the content of selenium, zink, copper, iron and manganese in red meat and liver determined. It was shown by the statistical analysis of data that, with the exception of selenium, the content of microelements in water did not significanly influence the content of microelements in red meat of broilers. By the analysis of liver samples significant differences in the contents of trace elements among investigated groups were obtained.
