Effects of inoculants on ensiling of maize plant and alfalfa at different ratios

The paper presents the results for ensiling of the entire maize plant alone or in mixing with alfalfa (75:25 and 50:50%) without and with adding of lactic bacteria inoculant "Microsil" (1 g/100 kg of feedstuff). Along with the increase of the share of alfalfa in silages, there was an increase of crude proteins, crude fibre, fat and ash, pH value and production of lactic and acetic acids, with the decreasing share of NFE. Lactic acid was present in all silages up to over 70%. The application of inoculants did not have any effects on the quality of fermentation, but decreased the streptococci count. The prevalvance of homofermentative lactic bacteria was found in treatments with equal share of maize plant and alfalfa. All silages, with a slight variation in the point number, were ranked in the 1st quality class according to the Flieg and DLG methods.
