The results of investigations of white wine cultivars in the "Radmilovac" collection vineyard [Yugoslavia]. [A short version of doctoral dissertation]

The investigations of 72 white wine grapevine cultivars were carried out at the "Radmilovac" ampelographic collection, Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade - Zemun, Yugoslavia. The plantation is situated in the Grocka grape growing area. It is registered gene bank for grapevines at the international organizations O.I.V. and IBPGR. All cultivars were grafted on Berlandieri x Riparia Kober 5 BB rootstocks and planted in 1960 on the S-W oriented slope, with the rectangular arrangement of vines 3 x 0.75 m. The training system is of cordon type and mixed-type pruning is practiced. Over three successive years, thorough investigations were conducted on botanical, agrobiological and economic-technological features of the collection cultivars for white wine production. All this with the aim to obtain accurate data, to select and recommend the most favourable cultivars for growing. Based on climate characteristics and phenological observations of plant organ growth and development in some cultivars, the total of 63 cultivars, of the 72 investigated, can be grown at Radmilovac. Late-maturing cultivars cannot be successfully grown. Diverse phenomena have been studied: growth, development, per cent and fertility of shoots, and finally, different productivity of buds and shoots. Significant differences among cultivars have been observed as to the other features too. Considering the results achieved, 14 cultivars, being the most favourable are recommended for production.
