The influence of diet energy level on production results of fattening lambs

The investigation has been conducted on suckling lambs divided into 3 groups. The animals belonged to the R2 generation obtained by crossing Pirot Pramenka and Wuertemberg rams. The feeding of lambs with fodder mixtures and lucerne hay was ad libitum. Prepared mixtures differed in their energy levels, that is, fodder mix A was a standard one, while fodder mixes B and C contained 4%, i.e., 6% tallow, respectively. The highest daily weight gain (303 g) was achieved in animals on treatment B, but the differences were not statistically significant (P0.05). Feed consumption, dry matter (DM), energy (NEM) and protein (g) per body weight gain accomplished had a falling tendency with a certain increase in diet energy level. Hot carcass dressing percentage with offals was 57.98%(A), 58.63%(B) and 58.46%(C), respectively. The investigated feeding trial did not show any significant influence on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd meat categories in carcass halves of experimental lambs, since the ensued differences were within the limits of random deviations. The investigations showed that certain advantage could be given to lambs treated with 4% tallow added to fodder mixture, since these animals accomplished best production results regarding body weight gain, feed conversion, nutrients and energy.
