Establishment of Squash Mosaic Virus (SqMV) in seeds of sugarbeet and cucurbit crops by ELISA method

The experiments were carried out with plants and their seeds from sugarbeet crops and cucurbit crops.The aim of the study was to establish seed transmission of SqMV by the seeds of sugarbeet palnts and cucurbit plants with blistered and deformed fruits.The sugarbeet leaves, the racemes and the germinated seeds from sugarbeet plants and the seeds from the cucurbit fruits were tested by ELISA.It was established that SqMV existed in leaves, racemes and seeds of sugarbeet plants.SqMV was present in 7 and 14 of seeds, that was 35% and 56% of them.In Cucurbita pepo SqMV was contained in 45% of the germinated seeds and in C.maxima only 11%.Since SqMV existed in germinated seeds of sugarbeet plants it was therefore transmitted together with their seeds.
