A study on echinococcosis in humans in Bourgas region for the period 1991-1998

During the last year for the echinococcus morbidity among animals and people in Bulgaria was observed a tendency of raising. Since 1994 the region of Bourgas was in the first place in the country in respect of number of registered cases followed by surgical intervention. During the period of 1991-1995 about 193 patients were operated and averade morbidity was 8.56 per 100 000 people. During 199111 cases of disease were registered, in 1995 the number was already 67, and in 1996-94 and only for the first 6 months of 1998-46. For the studing period the rate of morbidity was increased 9 times and the most alarming fact was that some anxious cases with babies already have been registered.
