Background quantities of non polarized carbon hydrates, organic carbon and total nitrogen in some soils in Bulgaria. Pollution and bio-regeneration norms

The background quantities of organic C, total N, the ratio C/N and the non polarized carbon hydrates were studied in virgin soils and their cultivated analogues. It was found out, that the intensified use of the soils by including them into the fund of the cultivated soils is accompenied by a loss of the organic matter's compounds analyzed, which could be ranked in the following descending order: natural carbon hydrates (3.13 fold) organic C(2.33 fold) total N(1.66 fold) C/N(1.44 fold). When after pollution with oil products a detailed remediation of the soils is carried out in order to bring the residual level up to limiting permissible concentrations (LPC) of 300 mg/kg, there always would be a loss of organic C and total N, equal to approximately 5 and 0.5 t/dca respectively. There exists a strong correlation between the quantity of the organic C and the ratio C/N and the quantity of the natural oil products in the soils (R=0.82, R2=0.680), so that the relation might be described with a linear regression equation.
