[Effect of tree planting density on leaf area and yield of Welsey and Pobeditel apple trees on clonal rootstocks of different vigor]
1999

Research was carried out in the orchard of 1986 year of planting. Apple cultivars Pobeditel and Welsey on clonal rootstocks of different vigor: interclation of dwarf rootstock 134 and medium-sized rootstock 5-25-3. Planting design: for rootstock-scion combination Pobeditel/134 and Welsey/134- 4x1 m, 4x2 m, 4x3 m; for stock-scion combinationWelsey/5-25-3- 4x2 m, 4x3 m, 5x2 m, 5x3 m. Tree height was kept by annual pruning to 2,5 m. It was found that leaf area and yield per a tree decreased depending on the increase of planting density and with regard to area unit - increased. Wiht the orchard ageing one can see the rise of suppression of apple tree vigor in the denser planting
