Influence of fertilization to agronomic and quality characteristics of the oat varieties
2000
Tamm, I. (Jogeva Plant Breeding Inst., Jogeva (Estonia))
A special trial was carried out at the Jogeva PBI in 1997-1999 to examine the influence of fertilization to the oat grain yield, lodging resistance, growing period, grain quality and disease resistance. Two types of fertilizers, Kemira Power 18 and Kemira Power 26 at levels of N 0, N 60, N 90 and N 120 kg/ha was used. Oat varieties 'Jaak', 'Villu' and 'Salo' were included to the trial. Oat grain yield increased more than twise as the result of fertilization in the trial. Increasing of N level caused the weakening of lodging resistance. Growing period of oat increased up to two days due to fertilization. Among grain quality characteristics, fertilization had the greatest influence to the protein content. There was only a slight variation of 1000 grain weight and husk content due to fertilization in trial. Fertilization caused a moderate decrease of the disease resistance of oat varieties. In addition to fertilization, oat characteristics were greatly influenced by climatic conditions and genotype
