Breeding value and descent of the Estonian Holstein bulls

The effect of birth year, birth place and fathers of 278 bulls on breeding value of the Estonian Holstein breed was analyzed. The birth year confirmed the positive genetic drift in younger generations of bulls. Leaders among the bull fathers are such world recognized bulls as Mascot, Cleitus, Blackstar, Ned Boy, Starbuck and others. The bulls born abroad exceeded those born in Estonia in the production of milk, milk fat and protein, while the daughters of local bulls had higher dry matter content of milk
