Our recent research has revealed several new features of the ultrastructure and development of Dermocystidium cyprini, a gill parasite of common carp. This species that can cause significant damage to fish farms belongs to a genus of unclear systematic affinity and poorly understood life history. We hope that our data that shed new light to the parasites biology can also contribute to more effective management of dermocystidiosis
