Goat milk proteins, alfas1-Cn polymorpism, inheritance of alfas1-Cn types as well, as the electrophoretic and PCR-RFLP methods identifying the individual types, are discussed. Alfas1-Cn type frequencies published in various breeds are presented and the effects of the individual types on milk composition as well as on cheese production are reviewed. Details are given on french dairy goat selection practices and results. There is a growing interest in dairy goat production in Hungary, the information presented in this review article will provide goat breeders with useful information so as to be more efficient in their breeding work.
