Analysis of the grain hardness of winter wheat varieties using a hammer mill

The paper presents the method elaborated by the authors to measure grain hardness, according to which the grinding resistance calculated from granulometric characteristics registered during grinding is a significant physical property of the wheat variety, giving a clear indication of the given grain structure. The method consists of grinding in a hammer mill of simple construction, modified for the purpose of the experiments, followed by sieve analysis. On the basis of the energetic data measured during grinding and the new ground surface values, the grinding resistance can be dimensionalised.
