Magnesium is absorbed by roots from the soil. It moves passively in the transpiration stream in an acropetal direction in the plant. Magnesium is found in plants in many forms: in free ionic form, in proteins, in nucleic acids and bound to anionic groups of phospholipids and in chlorophyll.
