Detection of gamma-interferon production in cattle herds with tuberculosis or giving positive para-allergic reactions. Preliminary communication

A sandwich ELISA was used to detect gamma-interferon (gamma-IF) production in fresh blood cultures containing bovine or avian PPD. In 2 M. bovis-infected herds there were 22 cattle with positive bovine tuberculin skin tests; 18 of these were gamma-IF positive and 4 negative. Of the 51 with negative skin tests in these herds, 2 were gamma-IF positive with bovine PPD and 3 with avian PPD; 46 were gamma-IF negative.
