New form of avian myeloid leukosis: J-leukosis

A new form of myeloid leukosis in two adult broiler breeder flocks is reported. Post mortem examination revealed neoplastic lesions in various internal organs, in the bone marrow, and occasionally, on the surface of various bones. In the affected organs multiple foci of proliferating myelocytes similar to those of normal myelocytes or less differentiated myeloblasts were seen. Occasionally in the very same bird other type of neoplastic lesions were found, like sarcomas, lymphoid leukosis and erythroblastosis. In the plasma and/or serum samples avian leucosis subgroup A nad J specific antibodies were detected by virus neutralization and antibody ALV ELISA tests.
