Ham record at Easter - but not at any price
2000
B., E.
The ham season this year wil be more moderate than it was last year, say most of the directors of the major meat industry companies interviewed by us. All of them agree that they do not want to sell the ham with deficit. For this reason and because the live pork is now more expensive than it was in the same period of last year the low prices of last cannot be repeated. Nevertheless, the retail business wants to depress the prices as much as possible. They rather want to attract the consumers with the ham sold and they do not intend to increase their profit significantly.
