A research aiming to characterize and classify Andosol soil in Central Aceh has been conducted since 1997 until April 1998 on coffee plantation, Pondok Gajah, Central Aceh. The examined points were selected according to the elevation points: 950; 1.150; 1.350; and 1.575 meters above sea level. The soil morphological factors examined were soil color, soil structure, and soil consistency. The soil physical factor analyzed was soil texture and bulk density. Meanwhile, the soil chemical factor analyzed were pH (H2O, KCl, NaF), C-organic, exchangeable cation (K, Ca, Mg and Na), cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation, P available, P retention, and Al, Fe-oxalate. A clay mineral (DTA) of the soil was also analyzed in this study. Result showed that soil color, in general, is dark. Soil structure is granular and blocky. Soil consistency is friable. Clay to sandy loam of soil texture is found. Bulk density of soil analyzed could be categorized as andic indicator for Andosol (0.90 g/cm3). The soil chemical analyzed are shown by pH acidity in which H2O is higher than KCl. The C-organic content is moderate to very high; the higher of elevation the lower of the C-organic content. Base saturation is low to high. The P available is categorized as very low. The P retention is very high (90,0 percent) and it fulfills as Andosol soil, and also for Al + 1/2 Fe2.00 percent. The soil for all points investigated are classified as follows: moderate, mixed, isohyphertermic, aquic hapludand at 950 meter above sea level; moderate, mixed, isohyphertermic, thypic hapludand at 1,150 meter above sea level; mixed, mixed, isothermic, thypic hapludand at 1.350 meter above sea level; moderate, mixed, isothermic, thypic durudand at 1.575 meter above sea level. It needs a research on pedogenesis and soil development in order to complete soil information of Central Aceh
