Effect of growth media on the growth and development of two sweet pepper cultivars in the nursery

English. The application of hybrid cultivars in combination with the proper growth media in the nursery is an important primary step to get better growth and higher yield of sweet pepper. A Split-plot Design with three replications was set up to find out the proper growth medium to increase growth and development of sweet pepper transplants in the nursery. Main plot factor consisted of sweet pepper cultivars (1) Yellow Wonder, (2) Blue Star. Sub plot factor consisted of : (1) Jiffy - 7 pellet, (2) manure + top soil (1:1), (3) manure + top soil (1:1)+NPK (15:15:15) + liquid fertilizer supplement Metallic, (4) manure + top soil (1:1)+NPK (15:15:15), and (5) manure + top soil (1:1) + liquid fertilizer supplement Metallic. The result revealed that the best growth medium for sweet pepper transplants of both cultivar Yellow Wonder and Blue Star was the growth media consisted of manure+top soil (1:1)+NPK (15:15:15)+ liquid fertilizer supplement Metallic which significantly increased pland height, root length, N, P, K uptake, LAI (Leaf area index), NAR (Net assimilation rate), RGR (Relative growth rate) of sweet pepper transplants. The user may get benefit through application of proper growth for sweet pepper seeds

Indonesian. Penggunaan bibit unggul paprika serta media tumbuh yang sesuai sejak di persemaian merupakan langkah awal penting untuk mendapatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil produksi paprika yang tinggi. Rancangan Petak Terpisah dengan tiga ulangan digunakan untuk menyusun perlakuan di lapangan yang bertujuan untuk mendapatkan jenis media tumbuh pesemaian yang sesuai bagi dua kultivar paprika. Petak utama terdiri atas kultivar paprika: (1) Yellow Wonder dan (2) Blue Star. Anak petak terdiri atas jenis media tumbuh tanaman semai, yaitu (1) Pellet Jiffy-7 (2) campuran pupuk kandang + tanah (1:1), (3) campuran pupuk kandang+tanah (1:1) + NPK (15:15:15) + pupuk pelengkap cair metalik, (4) campuran pupuk kandang + tanah (1:1) + NPK (15:15:15), dan (5) campuran pupuk kandang + tanah (1:1) + pupuk pelengkap cair Metalik. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa media tumbuh terbaik untuk tanaman semai paprika kultivar Yellow Wonder dan Blue Star adalah campuran pupuk kandang+tanah (1:1) + NPK (15:15:15) + pupuk pelengkap cair Metalik, yaitu nyata meningkatkan tinggi tanaman, panjang akar, serapan unsur hara N, P, K, Indeks Luas Daun, Laju Fotosintesis Bersih, dan Laju Tumbuh Relatif Tanaman. Penerapan teknologi yang dihasilkan ini akan menguntungkan pengguna melalui aplikasi media semai yang sesuai untuk benih paprika
