Development of triticale ideotype suitable to Latvian agroecological conditions
2000
Kronberga, A. (State Priekuli Plant Breeding Station, Priekuli, Cesu reg. (Latvia))
The adequacy of triticale traits was estimated for including them in variety ideotype suitable to Latvian agroecological conditions. The correlation between traits was used to find out acceptable traits for ideotype. Modificative, genotypic, phenotypic variability, coefficient of heritability were determined. The following traits as the number of grains per spike, grain weight per main spike, spike length had to be included in ideotype to increase the crop grain yield. Changes of the time of maturity, the number and weight of grains acceptable for breeder decreased the protein content in grains. Plant height, 1000 kernel weight, grain weight per spike were the traits with lower modificative and highest genotypic variability. Therefore inclusion of these traits in ideotype provided successful breeding. According to the obtained results, triticale ideotype for Latvian agroecological conditions was developed.
