2000
Dambergs, E. (Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Skriveri, Aizkraukle reg. (Latvia). Research Centre "Skriveri")
The breeding of a new variety of tetraploid red clover was started in 1988 in Skriveri Research Center. The sprout of red clover was treated with 0.2 % colhicin. The cross breeding of red clover varieties in artificial climate camera and use of other methods resulted in new varieties of early and medium tetraploid red clovers "Skriveru tetra", "Sata 93", "Tetra 93" and "Agra". The yield of green mass was surpassed by 25 to 30 % compared to diploid red clover "Skriveru agrais". Winter hardness of the new variety was higher than that of the standard variety "Skriveru agrais". The seed yield was 200 to 300 kg haE-1. The crop was produced for two years. The new perspective variety of red tetraploid clover was resistant to diseases, compared to standard red clover "Skriveru agrais". Testing of the new red clover variety is to be continued.
