2000
Zute, S. (State Stende Plant Breeding Station, Dizstende (Latvia))
The breeding of hull-less oat was started in the State Stende Plant Breeding Station in 1990. The results of testing the perspective lines of hull-less oats in 1998, 1999 have been summarized in the article. All the selected lines surpassed another hull-less oat "Belorusskaya golozernaya", but in comparison with the hulled oat "Laima" the yields reached only 62.9 to 8.3%. One of the promising lines was 28165 (PCU 70 / "Adam"). It reached the yield 5.01 t haE-1 (76.9% in comparison to oat "Laima") in 1998, and 3.73 t haE-1 (80.0% to that of oat "Laima") in 1999. The line 28156 ("Selma" / "Nos Nacht") had the best grain quality - TGW 29.4 g, protein content 15.19%, fat content 7.01%. The characteristic trait of this line was high proportion of hull-less grains in the yield - 98.4%. The line 28156 was resistant to loose smut (Ustilago avenae). Testing of lines will be continued in the competition nursery.
