Gemste, I. | Vucans, A. (Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia)) | Ivbulis, P.
The content of the toxic heavy metal cadmium in different types of Latvia's soils as well as the sources of cadmium are explained. Investigations have shown that there is a close correlation between the cadmium content and the soil absorption capacity, as well as between the cadmium content in soil and that in grain. It has also been stated that cadmium content in soil increases every year. In order to obtain high quality agricultural products, acid soils must be limed, the content of organic substances in them must be increased.
