Since 1996, the influence of different seeding rates and nitrogen rates on the yield structure and formation of winter triticale yield has been investigated at the Dept. of Field Crop Husbandry, Estonian Agricultural University. Field trials established with seeding rates of 200-700 viable seeds mE-2 on different N fertilisation levels. Formation of above ground biomass, including total and spike-bearing tillering, the lenght of tillers, No. of kernels spikelet E-1 and spike E-1, 1000 kernel weight has been determined and the effect of above-mentioned factors studied. The yield was mainly dependent on the number of spike-bearing tillers per plant and plant density (i.e. seeding rate). The seeding rate was in a negative correlation with spike-bearing tillering.
