In the given article the resulting data of the research carried out on the field of the EAU Institute of Field Crop Husbandry (1985-1997) are presented and discussed. It was established that the number of earthwarms was dependent on their feeding conditions and soil humidity. The number of earthworms was favourably affected by crop rotation, cultivation of red clover, use of direct drilling during soil cultivation and deep autumn cultivation preceding red clover cultivation. Use of prometryne had a negative effect on the number of earthworms.
