[The development of tourism in Latgale in 1995-1996]

The tourism industry in Latvia is analysed with a special attention to the region of Latgale. The number of foreign tourists and the purpose of their coming to Latvia in the period of 1994-1996 are reviewed. The problems hampering the development of foreign tourism are discussed, e.g. unsatisfactory information and advertisment about the historical monuments, the most interesting places and the facilities for tourists. The nature and historical places in Latgale including different facilities available for tourists are described.
