Farm Animal Genetic Resources in Estonia

The study deals with the protection of the country's biological resources and their sustainable use according to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) ratified by Estonia in 1994. In the given work the measures taken for this purpose in Estonia are described and discussed. They are as follows: genetic conservation of farm animal breeds including the Government Animal Breeding Laws of 1995, 96, 97, the Government subsidies, gene banks for storing the semen and embryos, performance recording of cattle and pigs, information and knowledge distribution about animal genetic resources in Estonia as well as the Estonian Action Plan for the Protection of Biological Diversity.
