Genetic parameters for 5 milk yield traits of the two most common dairy breeds in Latvia were estimated using a multiple-trait sire model. Heritability of milk yield was low ranging from 0.08 to 0.22. Moderate phenotypic correlations (rpi=0.28 to 0.46) and high genetic correlations (rg=0.58 to 0.63) existed between the protein and fat contents. Negative genetic correlations were found between milk yield and fat content (rg=-0.2 to -0.22) and between milk yield and protein content (rg=-0.05 to -0.35).
