Toxoplasmosis of domestic animals in Latvia

Toxoplasmosis is a wide-spread disease provoked by the intracellular protozoan Toxplasma gondii. The toxoplasmosis of domestic animals in Latvia was investigated by serological methods: complement fixation test (CFT) and latex aglutination test (LAT). The aim was to determine the invasion of toxoplasmosis in different domestic animals using the methods of serological diagnostics. By the CFT method toxoplasmosis antibody was detected in 0.8% cattle, 5.6% of sheep, 3.7% of goats, 4.9% of pigs, 4.7% of dogs. By the LAT it was detected in 30.4% of pigs, 44% of cats, 46.6% of dogs, 45% of sheep and 40% of goats.
