Occurrence and distribution of black scurf disease in potato caused by Rhizoctonia solani in Pakistan-II

A disease survey of potato growing agro-ecological zone in North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Northern Areas (NA) representing 62 locations indicated that black scurf is a common disease of potato in Swat area (zone 5) with 87.09% disease prevalence followed by Kalam valley (zone 6) 85% and Ganche, Baltistan, Gilgit/Hunza, Chitral (zone 7) 61.67%. However, ten locations in Chitral (zone 7) namely Booni, Mastuj, Laspur, Shahidaas, Chinar, Garam Chasma, Roi, Narcoraite, Kajal and Murdan were disease free. Area-wise, the highest mean disease incidence of 14.65% was found in Swat area (zone 5) followed by 13.36% in Kalam valley. (zone 6) and 12.81% in Ganche, Baltistan, Gilgit/Hunza and Chitral (zone 7). Whereas highest mean disease severity (1.15) was found in Kalam valley comprising of agro-ecological zone 6 and minimum mean disease severity (0.93) was observed in Ganche, Baltistan, Gilgit/Hunza and Chitral (zone 7). A mean disease severity of 1.13 was found in Swat area.
